Exhibition Challenge
Clubs' Display
Each club is invited to bring work turned by at least three club members.
The work must include turned wood and fit on a table 2m x .86m. Tables will
be provided for each club but not tablecloths. Prizes will be awarded for
the three best club displays. All work should be turned since the 2007 Challenge.
Individual's Display
Individuals are welcome to display up to 3 turnings in addition to those on
their clubs table. A pair of candlesticks or a chess set would be classed
as one piece of turning. All work should be turned since the last Challenge
in 2007.
Peer's Choice
All items on display, including those in the Clubs' Displays, will be voted
on by the attendees. The item receiving the most votes will receive the Peer's
Choice award.
Mystery Hands-on Challenge
Each club may enter a team of three or more people. Each team will have a
mini lathe for one hour. Team members are expected to turn for roughly equal
periods of time. Each team will be given details of the "mystery item"
30 minutes before their hour commences. The "mystery Item" will
be the same for all teams. Sufficient lathes should be available for all teams
to complete their hour at the same time. The results will be judged for accuracy
to the description, and/or drawings, provided, general workmanship and presentation.
The instructions should be followed accurately for maximum points. All wood
will be provided as will a supply of abrasives. Teams must supply their own
tools, measuring equipment and any decorative equipment and materials that
they think may be needed. Prizes will be given for the best team effort and
the biggest dig-in.
Hands-on Challenge - Team's Choice
This is the "old" style of Hands-On Challenge.
Each club may enter a team of three or more people. Each team will have a
mini lathe for one hour. Team members are expected to turn for roughly equal
periods of time. A team could combine to turn a single object, for example
a stool, or several separate items, for example a pen, a platter and an eggcup.
Work may be decorated by carving, texturing, painting, etc, but only in the
allotted hour. Well provide a mini lathe and chuck. Please bring your
own tools, wood and safety gear. Please saw and drill your wood in advance.
Prizes will be given for the best team effort and the biggest dig-in.
